Safety data sheet
The purpose of the safety data sheet is for a supplier to provide the recipient with information about the hazardous properties of the product, the risks and the protective measures to be taken. Most products classified as dangerous goods fall under the requirements for safety data sheets, which means that this document is extremely important for anyone who prepares or handles dangerous goods. Who is obliged to provide these safety data sheets is stated in the rules on safety data sheets found in Title IV (Information in the supply chain) of the REACH Regulation.
The safety data sheets must be structured in the following 16 standardized sections and contain all information that is important for preventing damage to people and the environment.
1. The name of the substance/mixture and the company/undertaking.
2. Hazardous properties.
3. Composition/information on ingredients.
4. First aid measures.
5. Firefighting measures.
6. Accidental release measures.
7. Handling and storage.
8. Exposure controls/personal protection.
